PRINCETON, N.J. -- University of Delaware weight throwers led the way at the Larry Ellis Invitational hosted by Princeton University Saturday at Weaver Stadium as the Blue Hens posted five top 10 finishes to highlight the action.
Senior John Viotto and freshman Alana Pantale (at right) each collected two top 10 finishes while Jim Schwendtner led all UD finishes with a fourth place showing in the men’s hammer throw.
The two-day event featured over 35 men’s and women’s teams.
Schwendtner was Delaware’s top finisher as he threw the hammer 189-feet, 8-inches to place fourth overall. His throw was a career best and marked the second longest toss in school history.
Viotto also starred for the UD men as he placed sixth in both the shot put and the discus, tossing the shot 51-8 1/2 and throwing the discus 158-11. Also for the Hens, Ryan Braunagel was 11th in the hammer (172-3), Andy Weaver was 17th in the 5,000 meters (14:22.69), Dan Feeney was 38th in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, James Townsend finished 61st in the 1,500 meters (3:57.72), and Mike Tait was 78th in the 800 meters (1:56.25).
