Delaware Captures 10 First Place Finishes at West Chester Open Meet; Pantale Wins Twice

WEST CHESTER, Pa. -- University of Delaware athletes dominated the competition at the West Chester University Open Track & Field Meet Friday at Farrell Stadium as the Blue Hens picked up 10 victories, including seven field event titles.
Delaware freshman Alana Pantale was the lone double winner as she captured both the discus (139-2) and shot put (40-9 1/2) events as part of five victories for the Blue Hen women.
For the Blue Hen men, middle distance runner Mike O’Brian and jumper Kendall Poole each picked up a first place and a runner-up finish on the day. O’Brian won the 1,500 meters (4:13.71) and was runner-up in the 800 meters (2:04.45) while Poole captured the triple jump (44-6 1/4) and was second in the long jump (20-9 1/4). The Delaware men posted five first place finishes as well.
Also for the Delaware women, freshman Courtney Sniscak broke her own school freshman record in the hammer throw with a winning toss of 161-5, passing her previous record by almost seven inches. Freshman Courtney Markow won the pole vault (11-3 3/4) and freshman Alyssa Kennedy (at right) won the 1,500 meters (4:55.95). Rachel Jensen and Gabrielle Coleman each contributed a pair of runner-up finishes with Jensen taking second in both the discus (122-3) and hammer (138-5) and Coleman finishing second in the 100 meters (12.98) and 200 meters (26.75).
On the men’s side, Nick Alexander won the shot put (48-4 1/4) while also placing fifth in the discus (124-11), Ryan Beach was the winner in the discus (152-1), and Aidan Galasso captured the 5,000 meters (15:22.45). Also for the Hens, Anthony Loccisano was second in both the 100 meters (11.77) and high jump (5-10 3/4) and also placed fourth in the long jump (19-2 3/4).
Delaware continues action Saturday when selected Blue Hens compete in the final day of the Penn Relays. The Colonial Athletic Association Championships are set for next weekend at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Va.
