University of Delaware Women’s Track & Field Posts Four Top 20 Finishes at First Day of Penn Relays

athlete photoPHILADELPHIA -- Members of the University of Delaware women’s outdoor track & field squad kicked off competition at the 118th annual Penn Relays Thursday afternoon with several strong performances at Franklin Field.

The Blue Hens competed in five events during the day and registered four top 20 finishes. Delaware will close out competition at one of the nation’s most prestigious track & field meets when the Hens compete in the 4 x 800 meter relay Saturday at 4:10 p.m.

Delaware’s top finisher on Thursday was the distance medley relay team of Lindsay Prettyman (at right), Alexandra Carroll, Emily Gispert, and Jessica Olsen which finished 11th overall with a time of 12:03.47. Maryland won the race with a time of 11:38.41.

Two Blue Hens individuals posted 13th place finishes with Courtney Markow leaping 11-feet, 5 3/4-inches in the pole vault and Jillian Seamon (bottom left) throwing the javelin 127-feet, 11-inches. Petra Olsen of South Carolina won the pole vault (13-4 1/4) and Jamie Klein of Villanova captured the college javelin throw with a distance of 147-11.

athlete photoDelaware’s 4 x 400 meter relay team of Vicky Caruso, Nijah Dupiche, Breanna Nicholson, and Toresha Foster also posted a top 20 finish as the team ran to a time of 3:42.22 to win their heat and finish 16th overall. The time was the second fastest in UD history. Oregon was the overall race winner with a time of 3:33.78.

Jennifer Holly added a 19th place finish in the pole vault with a jump of 11-5 3/4 while freshman Miranda Reinson was 23rd with a leap of 10-11 3/4.

Also for the Hens, the 4 x 100 meter relay squad of Caruso, Dupiche, Toresha Foster, and Latoya James placed fourth in its heat and 37th overall with a time of 47.61. Morgan State won the heat and was 13th overall clocking of 46.06.
