University of Delaware Women’s 4 x 800 Meter Relay Team Places 10th at Penn Relays

athlete photoPHILADELPHIA -- The University of Delaware women’s outdoor track & field squad closed out competition at the 118th annual Penn Relays Saturday by placing 10th overall in the Women’s College 4 x 800 meter relay at the University of Pennsylvania’s Franklin Field.

Delaware competed in six different events over the three-day meet and placed in the top 20 in six events with the 10th place finish by the 4 x 800 meter relay team Saturday the highest finish for the Blue Hens.

The Blue Hens’ 4 x 800 meter relay team of Emily Gispert (at right), Lindsay Prettyman, Jessica Olsen, and Meredith Steenkamer ran to a season-best time of 9:09.44 to place seventh in its section and 10th overall.

Among the teams Delaware defeated were those from Liberty, Temple, Colgate, St. John’s, and Georgia Tech.

Harvard was the overall winner of the race as the team of Alaina Murphy, Erika Veidis, Natalie Paine, and Meghan Looney ran to a time of 8:53.95.

In Thursday’s action at the Penn Relays, Delaware got an 11th place finish from the distance medley relay team, a 13th place finish from Courtney Markow in the pole vault and Jillian Seamon in the javelin, a 16th place showing by the 4 x 400 meter relay, and a 19th place finish by Jennifer Holly in the pole vault.

Delaware will continue action this weekend when the Blue Hens travel to Fairfax, Va. to take part in the Colonial Athletic Association Championships at George Mason University on Friday and Saturday.
