CONWAY, S.C. -- The University of Delaware women’s outdoor track & field team closed out competition at the second day of the Shamrock Invitational hosted by Coastal Carolina University Saturday at Shaw Stadium.

The Blue Hens recorded nine top 10 during the meet, which drew some of the nation’s top teams. Delaware placed seventh in the team relay standings with nine points, trailing only winner Coastal Carolina, Ohio State, St. Augustine’s, Purdue, Murray State, and Delaware State.

Delaware had two third place finishes during the two-day meet as the 4 x 200 meter relay team of Vicky Caruso, Toresha Foster, Chelsi Campbell, and Nijah Dupiche ran to a third place time of 1:38.50 and Paige Morris (at right) was third in the triple jump with a career-best leap of 39-feet, 10 1/2-inches.

Finishing fourth for the Blue Hens was the 4 x 400 meter relay team of Breanna Nicholson, Foster, Campbell, and Dupiche which ran to a time of 3:52.36.

Also for the Blue Hens, Latoya James was fifth in both the 100 meter hurdles (14.07) and long jump (18 1/2), Michelle Lambert was sixth in the 5,000 meters with a career-best time of 17:23.73, Lindsay Prettyman was seventh in the 800 meters (2:16.31), the 4 x 100 meter relay team of Caruso, Dupiche, Campbell, and Foster was seventh with a time of 47.24, and Nicholson was eighth in the 400 meter hurdles (1:04.11),

“Today was a windy day in South Carolina, but a very good season opener,” said Delaware head coach Wendy McFarlane. “This meet was competitive with over 50 teams and to be among the top 15 in any event is just the start we needed to boost our confidence. This is the best start we've had in five years, so I am excited for what is to come later this season.”

Delaware will return to action next Saturday when the Blue Hens take part in the West Chester (Pa.) Invitational.
