Seven Home Matches Highlight 2012 University of Delaware Women’s Soccer Schedule

NEWARK, Del. -- University of Delaware women’s soccer head coach Scott Grzenda announced the 2012 Blue Hen schedule on Friday, featuring seven home matches and 10 contests in the always tough Colonial Athletic Association.
The Blue Hens, who finished 10-7-4 overall and 5-3-3 in the conference a year ago, qualified for the CAA Tournament and advanced to the semifinals following a 1-0 victory over Hofstra in the quarterfinals. Delaware returns seven starters from last year’s squad including senior Ali Miller, a third team All Mid-Atlantic Region and first team All-CAA selection in 2011 after leading the Blue Hens with 14 goals and 30 points.
Following a pre-season exhibition at George Washington on Aug. 12, the Blue Hens will officially open the 2012-13 Delaware athletics campaign by hosting Georgetown on Aug. 19 at 1 p.m. at the UD Mini-Stadium.
The Blue Hens will then play four consecutive road games, heading to Seton Hall on Aug. 31 at 7 p.m. and then travelling to Siena on Sept. 2 for a 4 p.m. contest with the Saints. The following weekend Delaware travels to Loyola (Md.) on Sept. 7 at 7 p.m and to in-state rival Delaware State on Sept. 9 at 1 p.m.
Delaware returns home to host Saint Joseph’s on Sept. 14 at 7 p.m., before opening CAA play on Sept. 21 with a 7 p.m. home match against Towson. The Blue Hens then close out their three-match homestand on Sept. 23 when they welcome George Mason to Newark for a 1 p.m. contest with the Patriots.
UD heads south the following weekend, taking on Georgia Sate on Sept. 28 at 7 p.m. and UNCW on Sept. 30 at 1 p.m. The Blue Hens then open the month of October on Long Island when Delaware faces Hofstra on Oct. 4 at 7 p.m.
The Hens open their second three-game homestand of the year on Oct. 7 with a 1 p.m. match against Northeastern, before hosting defending league champion William & Mary on Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. Delaware’s final home match of the year will occur on Oct. 14 when the Blue Hens host Old Dominion at 1 p.m.
Following a 5 p.m. road game at James Madison on Oct. 18, Delaware wraps up its regular season at Drexel on Oct. 24 at 7 p.m.
The CAA Tournament quarterfinals will be held on Oct. 28, with the semifinals and championship game slated for Nov. 2-4 at the site of the regular season champion.
