Delaware Swimming and Diving Teams Complete Day 1 of CAA Pod Meet

WILMINGTON, N.C. - - The University of Delaware men’s and women’s swim teams completed the first day of events at the Colonial Athletic Association Pod Meet hosted by UNC Wilmington on Saturday afternoon. The Hens started the two-session day with 10 events in the morning and finished with 12 events during the afternoon session.
The men’s teams are leading George Mason (155-48) and Towson (172-31) but are trailing the host school (129-74).
The women are trailing both Towson (118.5-84.5) and UNC Wilmington (108-95) but have a sizeable lead over George Mason (154-49) to close out the day.
The men were led Grady Carter, Ross Buckwalter and Cole Clark as they each posted three top three finishes on the day. Carter touched home in first in the 50-yard freestyle in 21.03, and also was the anchor of the 200-yard freestyle relay and 200-yard medley relay teams that came in second. Buckwalter won the 100-yard breaststroke in 56.54 and was the second leg of both the 200 and 400-yard medley relay teams that came in second. Clark had three second place finishes on the day, completing the 100-yard butterfly event in 51.64 and was apart of the third leg of the 200 and 400-yard medley relay teams.
Hannah Facchine (above right) led all Blue Hen swimmers during the first day, placing in the top three in four different events. She was the second leg of the 400-yard medley relay team that won the event in 3:51.47, setting a new UNC W pool record, and was also the second leg of the 200-yard medley relay team that placed second in 1:47.04. She also took two third place finishes in the 200 individual medley and the 100-yard breaststroke.
Courtney Raw also had a good day, finishing with a team best two first place finishes. The sophomore was the opening leg of the winning 400-yard medley relay team and also touched home in first in the 100-yard backstroke in 57.52, breaking the UNC W pool record. She finished her day with a second place finish, opening the 200-yard medley relay team that finished in 1:47.04.
The men and women swimmers will complete the CAA Pod Meet tomorrow, as the third session will start at 10 a.m.
