Blue Hens Wrap Up CAA Pod Meet with Third Session on Sunday

WILMINGTON, N.C. - - The University of Delaware men’s and women’s swim squads completed the Colonial Athletic Association Pod Meet at UNC Wilmington with the final 12 events on Sunday, with dual meets against UNC Wilmington, Towson and George Mason.
The men took two out of three dual meets, defeating George Mason (240-113) and Towson (294-53) but falling to UNCW (213.50-139.50).
The women dropped their first two dual meets of the season with losses to Towson (129.50-223.50) and UNCW (157-196), but stayed above .500 with a victory over George Mason (255-97).
On Sunday, Grady Carter and Ryan Roberts led the men’s team (4-1, 3-1 CAA) as both placed two-second place finishes on the day. Carter came in second in the 100-yard freestyle event in 46.19 seconds, while Roberts touched home in second in the 500-yard freestyle in 4:39.20. Both Blue Hens were apart of the 400-yard freestyle relay team that placed second in 3:09.03. Craig Young won the 200-yard backstroke in 1:54.04, finishing the day as the lone Blue Hen to win an event.
The women (4-2, 3-2 CAA) had four top three finishers on the day, as two swimmer placed second and other Blue Hens finished in third. Hannah Facchine completed an outstanding weekend with a second place final in the 200-yard breaststroke, finishing in 2:20.44. She also had four top three performances yesterday. Kaitlin Wolla swam the 200-yard butterfly in 2:06.93, giving her a second place standing. Courtney Raw finished the pod meet with her fourth top three finish, coming in third in the 200-yard backstroke in 2:04.93. Wrapping up the afternoon for the Blue Hens was Elisa Kanegawa (above), as she finished third in the 200-yard butterfly in 2:08.20.
Both squads return to Rawstrom Natatorium on Saturday, November 13 for a tri-meet starting at 1 p.m. The Blue Hens will battle La Salle and Rider in nonconference action.
