Facchine, Dodd Top Finishers for Delaware Women After Day 2 of U.S. Swimming Nationals

ATLANTA -- A total of 10 swimmers affiliated with the University of Delaware men’s and women’s programs competed during the first two days of the 2011 AT&T U.S. Swimming Winter National Championships Thursday and Friday at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center.
The meet included the nation’s top amateur swimmers in long course competition with the opportunity to achieve Olympics Trials qualifying standards. The final day of the three-day meet gets underway Saturday morning.
In Thursday’s preliminary action, current UD senior Josh Hyman was 99th in the 200 individual medley (2:15.87), and current senior Nick Woomer finished 107th in the 50 freestyle (24.90).
On Friday, current Blue Hen junior Ryan Roberts, senior Hannah Facchine (at right), and former UD Mid-Major All-American and current volunteer assistant coach Ross Buckwalter (at right) had the top showings.
Roberts finished 49th in the 100 backstroke with a time of 58.79 and also competed in the 200 freestyle, placing 90th overall (1:57.30); Facchine led all UD women with a 54th place finish in the 100 breaststroke (1:13.74), and Buckwalter was 56th in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:04.92, just missing the Olympic Trials qualifying time of 1:04.69.
Also on Friday, senior Stephanie Dodd was 66th in the 400 individual medley (5:09.34), Woomer was 81st in the 100 backstroke (1:02.64), sophomore Cole Clark was 86th in the 100 butterfly (58.65), senior Courtney Raw finished 90th in the 100 backstroke (1:06.02), Hyman was 99th in the 100 breaststroke (1:10.51), former Blue Hen Mid-Major All-American and current volunteer assistant coach Mike Wodoslawsky was 100th in the breaststroke (1:12.85), and senior Victoria Gillespie finished 107th in the 100 butterfly (1:04.20).
Delaware will continue action on the third and final day of the championships on Saturday with seven swimmers in action. Dodd will take part in the 800 freestyle, Paul Gallagher will compete in the 100 freestyle, Hyman will take part in the 200 breaststroke, Matt McCarthy and Roberts will swim in the 200 backstroke, and Wodoslawsky will take part in the 200 breaststroke.
