Athlete photoATLANTA -- Several members of the University of Delaware men’s and women’s swimming squad closed out competition at the three-day 2011 AT&T Winter National United States Swimming Championships at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center Saturday afternoon.

The top finisher for the Blue Hens on Saturday was senior Stephanie Dodd (at right), who placed 33rd overall in the 800 freestyle with a time of 9:13.84. Her finish was the best among all UD competitors during the three-day meet, which draws many of the top U.S. and international amateur and professional swimmers. Many of the swimmers use the meet to earn U.S. Olympic Trials qualifying times.

The top UD men’s finisher on Saturday was junior Ryan Roberts, who placed 43rd in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:09.11. On Friday, Roberts placed 49th in the 100 backstroke and was 90th in the 200 freestyle.

Also for the Blue Hens on the final day of the meet, junior Matthew McCarthy finished 53rd in the 200 backstroke in 2:10.88; senior Josh Hyman placed 92nd in the 200 breaststroke in 2:36.62; current UD graduate assistant coach Mike Wodoslawsky was 95th in the 200 breaststroke in 2:44.71; and sophomore Paul Gallagher was 114th in the 100 freestyle in 54.72.

Both the Delaware men’s and women’s squads will train in Florida from Dec. 17-23 and will return to action Jan. 14 for a dual with Drexel at the Rawstrom Natatorium.
