Delaware Men’s Swimmers Ranked 16, Women Receive Votes in Latest CollegeSwimming.com Mid-Major Poll

NEWARK, Del. - - With the University of Delaware swimming dual meet schedule complete, both the men’s and the women’s squads were mentioned in the latest CollegeSwimming.com / CSCAA Mid-Major Division I Poll, released on Tuesday.
The men moved up two spots to number 16, gaining 221.4 points while finishing with an 11-1 dual meet record. The women actually gained more points than the men, 224.4, but missed the top 25 ranking by 0.9 points. They gathered the second most votes, behind Toledo, outside of the top 25.
The men haven’t lost since a dual meet since November 7, when they were downed by Colonial Athletic Association foe, UNC Wilmington in part of the CAA Pod Meet. Including the other two victories they posted that weekend, the men have rattled off nine straight dual meet victories, closing CAA action with a 6-1 record. The Blue Hen men have been led by Ryan Roberts, who has won the CAA Men’s Swimmer of the Week two times this season and Josh Hyman who was named the CAA Men’s Swimmer of the Week on February 1 after breaking Widener’s pool record and the Delaware record in the 200-yard breaststroke in the same week.Grady Carter and Zach Schiavo have also posted CAA Men’s Swimmer of the Week awards, while Brian Coonce has been named the CAA Men’s Diver or Co-Diver of the Week twice this season.
The women have an overall dual meet record of 8-6, and are hovering around .500 in the CAA with a 4-5 record, heading into the CAA Championships starting February 23. They stormed out of the gates by winning the first two CAA dual meets of the season, and could have had another win if it wasn’t for a three point set back to Northeastern.
The Blue Hen women broke two pool records in a 165-80 victory over Widener, setting a new mark in the 200-yard medley relay and the 1000-yard freestyle event set by Stephanie Dodd.
The tops of the polls nearly look the same on both sides, with only one difference in the top five in each poll. Miami-Ohio, Princeton, Harvard and Denver remain in the top four slots on the women’s side, with Oakland making a jump from 29 to number 5. On the men’s half, Navy retains the top seed, while Oakland jumps from number 20 to number two, with Princeton, Cal State Bakersfield and Cleveland State all being knocked down one to round out the top five.
Both teams will head to George Mason to take part in the three-day CAA Championship meet starting next Wednesday. The women will look to improve upon their seventh place finish from a season ago while the men try to get over the third place hump as they have placed third the last three seasons.
