Delaware Concludes Weekend CAA Pod Meet; Blue Hen Women Place Second in 200 Freestyle Relay

TOWSON, Md.-- The University of Delaware’s men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams concluded a Colonial Athletic Association Pod Meet on Sunday at Towson’s Burdick Pool.
The Blue Hens faced off in dual meets against host Towson and UNC Wilmington in the two-day event.
The Delaware men (1-3, 0-3 CAA) fell to 2011 CAA champion UNCW, 245-105, and dropped a close meet to Towson 184-167.
On the women’s side, the Blue Hens (2-2, 1-2 CAA) lost for the first time this season as they dropped both of their meets, falling to defending CAA champion Towson 272.5-78.5, and to UNCW 234-117.
Delaware diver Brian Coonce led the Blue Hen men, winning both the 1-meter and 3-meter events. Ryan Roberts nabbed a second place finish in the 100-yard backstroke in 52.45 while Nick Woomer, Matt Marquez, and Paul Gallagher chipped in third place finishes in the 50-yard freestyle (21.42), 1650-yard freestyle (16:33.64) and 100-yard freestyle (46.79), respectively.
The Blue Hens also picked up third place finishes in the 200-yard medley, 200-yard freestyle, and 400-yard freestyle relays.
The Delaware women’s top finish came in the 200-yard freestyle relay where the team of Tori Gillespie, Jena Marrinucci, Mary Kay Harris and Maggie Tracy swam to second place finish in a time of 1:38.50.
Hannah Facchine (at right) came away with two third place finishes of her own, swimming a 2:09.48 in the 200-yard IM and a 2:22.06 in the 200-yard breaststroke.
Delaware had two other individual third place performances as Gillespie tied for third in the 100-yard butterfly in 57.19 and Courtney Raw finished third in the 100-yard backstroke in 57.85. The UD women also came in third place in the 200-yard medley and 400-yard freestyle relays during the weekend.
Delaware returns to action next Saturday, Nov. 12 for a tri-meet against LaSalle and Rider in Philadelphia.
