RICHMOND, Va. -- The University of Delaware women’s swimming and diving team swept the weekly Colonial Athletic Association weekly honors on Tuesday as Blue Hen senior swimmer Hannah Facchine (bottom left) was named CAA Female Swimmer of the Week and junior diver Heather Chucta (top right) was selected as the CAA Female Diver of the Week.
The awards were the first career citations for both student-athletes.
Both helped Delaware sweep LaSalle and Rider in a tri-meet Saturday in Philadelphia with the Blue Hen women (4-2) defeating LaSalle 168-130 and Rider 184.5-95.5. The Delaware men (3-3) also swept LaSalle and Rider in the meet.
Towson’s John Gartland was named the CAA Men’s Swimmer of the Week after posting a strong showing vs. George Washington. No CAA Diver of the Week was selected.
Facchine, a native of Raleigh, N.C. (William Enloe High School) was the big winner on the women’s side as she had a hand in four first place finishes, including three individual competitions.
She won the 100 breaststroke in 1:05.30, captured the 200 breaststroke in 2:21.05, and won the 200 individual medley in 2:10.41. She then teamed with Tori Gillespie, Courtney Row, and Maggie Tracy to win the 200 medley relay in a clocking of 1:46.95.
On the boards, Chucta led the Blue Hens as she placed second in both events. The Prospect, Conn. (Woodland-Beacon Falls High School) finished as runner-up in both events, posting 216.10 points in the one-meter event and 217.90 in the three-meter competition.
Both the Delaware men’s and women’s teams will return to action this weekend as the Blue Hens compete at the Bucknell Invitational Nov. 18-20 in Lewisburg, Pa.
