Delaware Women’s Swimming and Diving Sweep Rider and La Salle Behind 10 First Place Finishes

NEWARK, Del. -- The University of Delaware men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams combined to capture 19 first place finishes and 15 second place showings as hosts in a three-way meet with Rider and La Salle Saturday afternoon at Delaware’s Rawstrom Pool.
The Delaware men defeated La Salle, 195.5-104.5, and claimed a 190.5-109.5 victory over Rider behind nine first place and six second-place finishes.
The Blue Hen women also swept La Salle, 199-101, and Rider, 229-70, by claiming 10 first place and nine second place showings.
Ryan Roberts was part of victories for the Blue Hen men in four separate events; 200 Medley Relay with Tyler Szarko, Cole Clark and Paul Gallagher (1:34.64), 200 freestyle (1:42.25), 500 freestyle (4:36.51) and 400 freestyle relay with Sihan Liu, Bryan Brown and Gallagher (3:08.32).
Gallagher added a third win 100 freestyle (47.34). Rounding out the UD men’s victories were Matthew Marquez in the 200 butterfly (1:54.08), Clark in the 100 butterfly (51.14), Matthew McCarthy in the 200 backstroke (1:52.42), and Luke Winkler in the 3-meter diving event (280.10).
The UD men also received second place finishes from Alex Tooley in the 1,000 freestyle (9:46.09) and 200 individual medley (1:56.30), Tim Ware in the 100 backstroke (52.41), Andrew Speese in the 200 butterfly (1:54.34) and 100 butterfly (51.95) in addition to Brian Coonce in the 3-meter diving event (273.75).
Delaware’s Kristina Congdon swept the diving titles by winning the 1-meter event with a score of 258.85 and 3-meter competition with a 271.55 mark.
Domonique Montoya claimed two individual victories in the 200 freestyle (1:55.68) and 100 freestyle (52.46) along with being a part of the 400 freestyle relay team with Maggie Tracy, Morgan Whyte and Courtney Raw (3:34.61).
Raw also had two additional individual victories in the 100 backstroke (58.22), 200 backstroke (2:06.30) and was part of the 200 medley relay team with Emily Pate, MaryKathryn Harris and Whyte (1:48.23). Whyte in the 50 freestyle victory (24.09) and Kaitlin Wolla in the 100 butterfly (58.30) rounded out the first place finishes for the Blue Hens women.
The Delaware women also got second place showings from the 200 medley relay unit of Alyssa Sanders, Marando, Wolla and Tracy (1:50.59), Shea Solt in the 1000 freestyle (10:32.10), Sanders in the 100 backstroke (59.67), Emily Plate in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.82), Megan Northshield in the 200 butterfly (2:07.77), Brittany Lazear in the 500 freestyle (5:13.63), Mackenzie Howarth in the 200 individual medley (2:12.59), the 400 freestyle relay unit of Ann Fadden, Solt, Laura Askin, and Lazear (3:39.43), and Caitlin Stockwell in the 3-meter diving event (248.05).
The 400 freestyle relay unit of Montoya, Tracy, Courtney Raw, and Morgan Whyte (3:32.93), and from Megan Northshield in the 200 butterfly (2:08.85). Raw also placed third in the 200 medley relay (1:48.06), 100 backstroke (58.25), and 200 backstroke (2:06.37) while Kaitlin Wolla was third in the 200 medley relay (1:48.06) and 200 butterfly (2:09.33) and diver Kristina Congdon was third in both the 1-meter (262.05 points) and 3-meter (270.55) events.
Both Delaware teams will return to action next Friday, Nov. 16 through Sunday, Nov. 18 as the Blue Hens participate in the Bucknell Invitational at Bucknell’s Kinney Natatorium.
