Pairings Set For Virginia 529 CAA Men’s and Women’s Tennis Championship

RICHMOND, Va. --With the conclusion of the regular season, the Colonial Athletic Association announced the pairings for Virginia 529 men’s and women’s tennis tournament, slated to begin Thursday afternoon in Norfolk, Va., and run through April 24.

All action will take place at Old Dominion University’s Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center. Admission to the Virginia 529 Tournament is free.

The University of Delaware men have earned a No. 7 seeding, finishing the regular season with a 3-3 conference record. The Hens will take on No. 10 Hofstra University at 11:30 a.m.  The winner will face second-seeded Georgia State on Friday at 1: 30 p.m.

On the women’s side, Delaware was selected as the No. 6 seed, finishing the CAA schedule at 5-1. The Hens will take on No. 11 George Mason in the first round, beginning at 2 p.m. The winner will advance to face Georgia State, which is the No. 3 seed in the women’s tournament, at 1:30 p.m. on Friday.

In the men’s tournament, Virginia Commonwealth earned the top spot and will look to defend last season’s title, followed by Georgia State, No. 3 UNC Wilmington, fourth-seeded William & Mary, No. 5 Old Dominion, James Madison, which was seeded sixth. Delaware took the No. 7 spot, while George Mason, Drexel and Hofstra rounded out the tournament as the eight, nine and 10 spots, respectively.

The women’s tournament will feature No. 1 William & Mary, No. 2 and defending champion VCU, Georgia State was selected third, followed by UNC Wilmington in fourth and Old Dominion fifth. The Hens earned the No 6 spot while James Madison was selected seventh. No. 8 Towson will face No. 9 Towson, as No. 10 Hofstra and No. 11 George Mason round out the field.
