Blue Hens Sweep Through Hofstra, Men Win 7-0 While Women's Bring Home 5-2 Victory

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y.-- The Blue Hens got off to a hot start in Colonial Athletic Association action, as the University of Delaware men’s and women’s tennis teams knocked off Hofstra University. The men defeated the Pride 7-0 while the women brought home a 5-2 victory.
In the women’s action, Dorothy Safron collected her 18th win of her rookie season, taking out Lauren Clifton 6-2, 3-6, 6-4. Samantha Carnall picked a Blue Hen win in the third flight, cruising past Malissa Galanchi 6-1, 6-0.
Olivia Heim (at right) earned a 6-4, 6-0 against the Pride’s Sonia Tsay in the fifth flight as Monste Ripoll got the Hens’ their fourth win in the sixth flight 6-3, 6-1 over Paige Polizois.
In women’s doubles, Carnall and Megan Doran continued to impress as they got by Elena Ivanova and Brooke Sailer 8-2. Ivana Petrich and Sophie Sjoberg-Sundstrom locked up the doubles point for the Hen’s with an 8-4 win over Gattelaro and Tsay.
On the men’s side, Chris Hincker moved even closer to the all-time wins record, earning his 67th career win with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Matthew Gemmell in the third flight.
Courtney Scott earned a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Antonio Pena; while Troy Beneck picked up a 6-1, 6-3 win against Chris Damion. Delaware’s Andre Vorobyov notched a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Ben Thompson-Star. The Hen’s Jeff Marshall knocked off Jon Disley 6-1, 6-2 as Ryan Kent completed the singles sweep with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Jason Sinkoff.
Delaware, which improved to 5-2 overall and 1-0 in the league, won all three doubles matches, including an 8-0 win from Beneck and Vorobyov against the Pride’s Damion and Adrien Bailley. Scott and Kent knocked off Pena and Gemmell 8-4. Chris Hincker and Robbie Kay took the third flight 8-3 against Thompson-Star and Disley.
The Hens return to the court on March 23 as both squads take on Lafayette at 3 p.m. at the Delaware Field House Tennis Courts.
