NEWARK, Del. -- After a successful fall semester, the University of Delaware women’s tennis team, led by head coach Laura Travis, opens spring play Sunday with a 12:30 p.m. match against Morgan State at Sea Colony in Bethany, Del.
Junior Dorothy Safron (at right) and freshman Danea Jonjic’ led the Blue Hens as both went undefeated in play at the Saint Joseph’s Invitational in September.
As a freshman, Safron tallied 22 singles wins, which was good for third all-time.
In doubles action, Safron joined freshman Carmen Lai to go undefeated at the Saint Joseph’s Invitational.
With a total roster size of eight, Travis is expected to continually shuffle herlineup as the Blue Hens fight for a CAA championship.
Delaware is a young squad that features just one senior in Amanda Halstrom. Juniors include Safron and Olivia Heim while the Blue Hens also have to two sophomores, Christina Harrington and Kim Milla.
Jonjic’ and Lai are joined by fellow freshman Nataliya Naumova. The newcomers are expected to make an immediate impact on the program.
Due to construction, Sunday’s match against the Bears is not open to the public.
