NEWARK, Del. – A brighter Bob, new pregame traditions and expanded hospitality options await Blue Hens fans this season. University of Delaware Athletics is introducing several enhancements to the men's and women's basketball gameday experience at the Bob Carpenter Center for 2026–27.
New Lights, More Energy
A new LED lighting system designed by Musco Lighting will bring an exciting new look to the Bob. Funded by a grant from Energize Delaware, the system combines improved court lighting with color-changing fixtures and custom light shows synchronized to music, creating new opportunities to energize the arena throughout each game while reducing energy consumption.
"We are so grateful to Energize Delaware for partnering with us on this project," Director of Athletics & Campus Recreation Jordan Skolnick said. "Providing an enhanced gameday experience and being more sustainable are two important initiatives for us that are values aligned, so being able to do it together made it a great opportunity for us."
Be in Your Seat for the Show
Fans are encouraged to arrive early and be in their seats with approximately five minutes remaining on the pregame countdown clock. A new mascot introduction will welcome Delaware's favorite Fightin' Blue Hens to the court and get the crowd ready to cheer on the team. The excitement continues with the team run-out and starting lineup introductions, featuring the new lights alongside the energy of the Delaware Pep Band and spirit squads.
Clear Bag Policy
A new clear bag policy will be in effect at the Bob Carpenter Center this season. Permitted bags include clear bags no larger than 12" x 6" x 12", clutch purses or fanny packs no larger than 5" x 7", medical bags, and diaper bags. Other non-clear bags, including backpacks, drawstring bags, camera cases, and oversized purses or totes, are prohibited. All bags are subject to inspection. Fans are encouraged to plan ahead to help keep entry moving smoothly.
More Ways to Enjoy the Bob
Additional courtside and floor seating will bring fans closer to the action, with renewing season ticket members receiving the first opportunity to select from the new courtside inventory. Courtside ticket holders will enjoy exclusive courtside ordering and pickup for bar and concession items, along with access to floor-level restroom facilities, providing added convenience throughout the game.
Groups can also make their outing a special occasion with pregame tailgates, receptions, and private events in the BCC Hall of Fame lobby or the new East Concourse hospitality area, located behind Sections 11–14.
Groups can enjoy exclusive experiences, including pregame high-five tunnels, National Anthem performances, halftime entertainment, youth basketball scrimmages, videoboard recognition, postgame photos, and fundraising opportunities. Fans interested in planning a group outing can complete the Group Interest Form.
